- Find out when they meet and ask for a voice on the open forum.
- I think you should go to a council meeting. They should have at least a portion of the meeting that is open to the public. Go there and express your opinion. It might be more convincing in person.
- Just write the letter, once you write it, put it down and read it a few hours later. Then have someone else read it and tell you what they think. Or call the city council office to discuss the issue with someone - but you are correct, a letter is the best way to go.
- Dear Mayor _____ and Council Members, I am writing to you concerning a letter I received from _____, a police officer employed by the city, dated September X, 2007. In that letter, ______ accuses me of [specify charge], which is incorrect. A review of the police report dated July X, 2007 will indicate than I am the victim of [specify crime], not the criminal. I feel that _______'s letter merits a negative notation in his employee file. I would expect that he would have to explain his letter to his supervisor or to the Council itself. As my elected representatives, I hope you will act to discipline ______ appropriately and ensure that he write a second letter which clearly corrects the errors of fact in the first. I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. Sincerely, Without knowing circumstances, that's about the best I could muster.
