What is the difference between block letters and capital letters?

University Form asks to write in block letters only. Does that mean I have to write capital letters like: LUCY LIU? or Lucy Liu? According to Wiki it says ". It is often misconstrued that one must write in capital letters when writing in block letters" So what's up?

  1. block letters are just used so that the data cap can read it clearly and not make any mistakes, yes you have to use capital letters and space your letters a bit more apart than you usually
  2. According to Wiki it says There's your problem right there, NEVER EVER trust wikipedia xD Block letters means: Capital letters which have a distinct spacing between them (i.e. do not join them up).
  3. What is generally meant by block letters is simple capital letters without any embellishments or squiggly bits. This is because a lot of forms are read by machines these days, rather than humans. Block capital letters in black ink is the safest way to go to avoid getting your form bounced back to you and having to re-do it. hope this helps
  4. I would guess that this means to write only in print as opposed to cursive. I do not think it would mean all capital.
  5. Block letters are basically capital letters set in a print formation as in a baby's block while capital letters can be set to printing and writing . Block letters also appear to look more formal and show more emphasis as they are usually filled in as you see on a baby's block or like in stensils
